The eLearning professional has the task of helping students to acquire skills through training content in eLearning mode. To do this he/she uses an LMS (i.e. Learning Management System): a platform where it’s possible to create and deliver online courses. The trainer can decide to write contents from scratch or use and re-elaborate existing materials such as slides, photos, videos. By choosing an authoring tool, like the system provided by DynDevice, it is easy to organize the training contents, import your own material and test the skills acquired by the students in just a few steps.
1. Select the course material and the course template
The first thing to do to create an online course is to decide which course material to use. Priority should be given to unpublished or existing resources that help students acquire the skills they need. In addition to content, you must choose the format or formats with which students prefer to learn: texts, videos, podcasts. The next step is to choose the course graphics. On DynDevice there are several predefined templates that save the trainer valuable time.
2. Organize teaching materials in lessons using the SCORM™ editor
Once you have identified the training material to use, you can get to the heart of DynDevice using its authoring tool, the course editor. The Shareable Content Object Reference Model system is a model used to communicate learning objects (i.e. the didactic elements) of an online course with other LMS. This means that the trainer can offer the course prepared with DynDevice also to a company that adopts another LMS compatible with SCORM™.
That said, the SCORM™ editor helps organize the teaching materials and break it down into lessons. Each lesson can be made from texts and other multimedia files such as audio, video and slides. In practice, it's like using a writing program like Word where you can easily insert video and audio files.
3. Import slides into online lessons and decide on their duration
Trainers who use a lot of slides have the possibility to show them "timed to a single video" through the DynDevice course editor. The platform transforms slides of any PPT, PPTX, PDF or ZIP format into JPEG images. With intuitive controls you can decide the duration of the slides and unify them in a single video lesson.
4. Decide on the navigation sequence
In general, lessons are organized from the simplest to the most complex and, to achieve the training objectives, it is good that they are loaded in sequence. With a simple command, the trainer can prevent the user from changing the order of the lessons because in some types of training it is essential to proceed by stages.
5. Create quizzes
At the end of each lesson the trainer can decide to test the students to understand if they have really understood the training content. With the course editor you can choose different types of quizzes, single or multiple choice, and decide which score to assign to each one. The quiz is a fundamental element to understand if the student is ready to go to the next lesson or if, on the opposite, he/she must repeat the lesson.
The creation of an online course with DynDevice is easy. Course editor helps writing texts directly on the LMS, organizing didactic materials in lessons, importing slides and other pre-existing audio and video files to be integrated into the lesson, setting the navigation sequence and preparing quizzes. When the course is ready the trainer only has to decide how to deliver it to the clients: through the platform or exporting it as a SCORM™ package, compatible with the most widely used standard in eLearning industry.
